Family Portrait

Creating family memories

After many years of staging beauty in different shoots, I have the urge to create more honest images. Images with meaning to someone, somewhere, an especially someday. Observing a family and allowing  everything to unfold, not only makes your heart full, but also reminds you that beautiful imagery means taking your time to see with empathy and passivity. Although I am a photographer, I am spending more time observing my subject, understanding the light and colour I see rather than giving instructions or editing images. In fact, I reduced the amount of photographs I take to a minimum asking myself each time I press the button: Is this meaningful? Is this relevant? Is this beautiful. Almost 100% are keepers. This feels right... I am thanking Michelle, who is an extremely talented photographer herself, having me in their home and allowing me to photograph her family.

Beach Elopement Inspiration

Oceanside elopement on the Californian Lost Cost

The sea allows us a moment to escape. To feel free from the burdens that we carry. A lightness comes over us and we are taken to a place and time where our souls can be free. A place where our hearts open to love and life's infinite possibilities. Today's beautiful Beach Wedding editorial, captured by Madalina Sheldon , has this sentiment perfectly captured. Full of light and softness, this shoot inspires both our minds and our hearts! Joywed "This shoot was all about the textures, tones and contrast of the capricious summers of California's Lost Coast. I wanted to put together a scene that is full of movement and light, adorned with handmade details and florals foraged from bushes and dry plants that grow right around the beach where we shot". A. Ambrosini

Cotswolds

Wedding photographer traveling through Cotswolds

In the Cotswolds the hills are high and wild, but rarely bleak, and simple stone cottages combine with church, manor house and tithe barn to create a picture of timeless beauty. Stone here is plentiful and it is this stone that gives the region its character, creating a harmonious landscape of fields bounded by drystone walls, churches with majestic towers, opulent town houses, stately homes and humble cottages with lichen-patched walls beneath steeply pitched roofs of limestone tile.   Many of the settlements in the Cotswolds are tucked into hidden hollows and valleys where they are invisible to anyone travelling on the high roads. The lanes here are narrow and twisty, often no more than a farm track. Laurie Lee, the author of Cider with Rosie  said it's "easy to take the Cotswolds for granted until you went away and discovered that the whole world was nothing like so special." Planning and styling a chateau destination wedding

Creating a welcoming space for your wedding guests

Planning a destination wedding can be a challenge. Some good vendors that will collaborate or a wedding planner will for sure help you in this matter. Especially when it comes to styling and details like florals, tabletops etc. you might have the feeling, you are not really in control of everything. What I have learned during these last past years, is to always keep the surroundings in mind and look for the local beauty, the textures, the pigments and flora. Keep an eye on what your venue already has to offer like characterful furnishings or vintage tabletops.   It was a revelation seeing Amy Merrick creating this welcoming wedding table by just foraging some crude apple tree and blackberry branches. Ginny Au worked her magic on the composition of the table and the finishing touches were the vintage plates and cutlery. The authentic chairs and tables were offered by the venue - the Château de Bouthonvilliers which is located in the Dunois region, or more precisely in the Perche Göet, a charming region only one hour far from central Paris.   Creating a beautiful, honest and timeless space, especially if you are a lover of local treasures and authenticity, will be easier than you think and your wedding guests will be delighted by your reception!
